Very fine hair-like, sterile, disposable needles are inserted in specific locations on the body. The location of the points selected is determined by the patient's diagnosis, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Patients may feel an initial pressure, tingling or other sensations when the needles are inserted. Once the needles are in place, most people experience a deep sense of relaxation during their treatment, and many sleep.
Additional therapeutic modalities such as tui na (therapeutic massage), gua sha, cupping and moxibustion are added when necessary to enhance the treatment.
